SHB20216 Certificate II in Salon Assistant

Commence your career as a Salon Assistant. This entry level course will enable you to perform foundation skills within the Hairdressing or Barber Industry, perform routine work in a hairdressing salon or Barbershop, including duties such as greeting clients, scheduling appointments, washing clients’ hair, cleaning the salon, apply hair color products, rinse and neutralise chemically structured hair and selling products and services.

Who is responsible for your training?

Creative Edge Training is responsible under the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator Act 2011 for the quality of the training and assessment being delivered in this course and for the issuance of all AQF certificates.

Units of Competency

This course is delivered in a flexible delivery arrangement to suit the learner’s desired outcome.

To be issued the qualification SHB20216 a learner must be assessed as competent in 12 units of competency.

  • 8 core units
  • 4 elective units

These competencies have been drawn from the nationally endorsed industry training package the SHB Hairdressing and Beauty Services Training Package. On successfully completing the training and assessment, the SHB20216 Certificate II in Salon Assistant will be issued. A transcript listing all units of competency will also be issued. The qualification and units of competency are nationally recognised and provide individuals with a valuable qualification that can be applied throughout Australia and the wider Hairdressing community.

Program Outline

Certificate II in Salon Assistant can be studied in a number of models including

  • VET in School- VETiS – As part of your school studies
  • The Certificate 3 Guarantee – This program supports eligible individuals to complete their first post-school certificate III level qualification and increase their skills to move into employment, re-enter the workforce or advance their career
  • In a Fee paying arrangement in an Accelerate program

Entry Requirements

Although there are no formal entry requirements, a genuine interest or passion in the Hairdressing or Barber Industry is a must.

Where will it take me?

Those who achieve this qualification may seek employment as a qualified Salon Assistant. Your skills will allow you to assist senior staff in the salon, perform receptionist duties or you may wish to further your studies and commence an apprenticeship in Hairdressing or Barbering. Credits for your work achieved will go towards other courses we offer. Our course advisor will happily discuss your career options.
